Metadata Project Method

(originally proposed by mickfuzz on the metadata e-list)

  • Create a few real life Tx metadata feeds from an existing database, either as a drupal tool or a quick php hack. Clearerchannel.org or ifiwatch.tv spring to mind. Then check the feed with the creators, and others interested, to make sure we all agree it's valid.
  • Update Metadata specification to point to these working examples. And continue the process of updating the specification based on approved feedback.
  • Test existing RSS readers to see which ones can read it. Contact those that don't with a request to support the TX specification.
  • Create templates to create the TX feed from Standard Drupal Video Module, and one from a custom node created for Drupal and accessed via views (the ifiwatch.tv approach).
  • Create documentation explaining how to implement drupal-based feed creation.
  • Work with other CMS technicians in the network to encourage them to create TX feeds and document it where relevant including a FAQ for interested groups.
  • Work with a drupal coder to create a TX aggregation module which can import TX feeds into a drupal site and documentation on how to display them flexibly.

This would be similar to the v2v module. This may involve a decision about whether it's better to patch an existing module like simplepie / aggregator2 , or start from scratch.

  • Set up an aggregation / search area on the transmission.cc drupal website as a working project to demonstrate the technology.
  • Work with some external drupal based video groups to encourage them to implement these modules.
  • Start a process of encouraging external video groups to join the transmission network and adopt the TX feeds and aggregation tools.
  • Investigate the possibility of a Plumi and WordPress aggregation/ search tool for the TX feeds with Engagemedia and Show-in-a-Box project.
