Since digital video became possible, many people have a similar need having shot massive amounts of footage. You end up with tons of tapes sitting rotting but the footage is really valuable as a document of that time frame. Pad.ma is meant to address the need of organizations to preserve mini dv footage from tapes going bad or from languishing unused.

Your organization can have a subdomain within pad.ma (example: organization.pad.ma) want you to host there so that all will be searchable from the main pad.ma home page

they will help you out as much as they can

offline archiving - people would like the video they have uploaded to also be available offline, like for indexing what footage is available on what hard drive

pad.ma stores the videos on hard drives so you can plug in your HD, tell pad.ma to index the HD, and later it can tell you where your footage is

Sanjay wants to know what other features we might want or need so he can figure out whether it will be possible to develop them

consider using pad.ma to meaningfully archive your work, nothing would make them happier than to have partners from Southeast Asia

you can also take the pad.ma software and do what you want with it (but you may want to have someone like Andycat working for you full time)

taking a tape, digitizing it, maybe cutting it up a bit, taking it into the annotation interface, adding data about the video, adding transcript, making it searchable - each event on pad.ma is pretty much a separate DV tape

pad.ma stores footage on its own server at 640x480, but in Bombay the footage comes in as DV, people send them hard drives, it will index the hard drives, do backups

if this proves too difficult pad.ma can help set you up with a system similar to what they use in Bombay

they have a mailing list you can join to go back and forth with questions before you join in / commit

they want to support the use case of organizations that have tapes and tapes and tapes, want to help them organize their stuff and make it searchable and findable

Andrew asked why not use metavid & mediawiki or another popular cms maybe it makes sense to for metavid and pad.ma to collaborate
