Politube RSS filtering capability

From Transmission
Jump to: navigation, search

the rss filtering capability is now provided. Currently it is simple but I think it will be enough to suit your needs. I can expand it as needed. You may apply the filters to both the politube RSS feeds as well the politube transmission feed. Here some samples:

http://www.politube.org/rss/newmedia?author=ifiwatch http://www.politube.org/atom/txmission?author=ifiwatch

http://www.politube.org/rss/newmedia?title=World%20Bank http://www.politube.org/atom/txmission?title=World%20Bank

http://www.politube.org/rss/newmedia?description=World%20Bank http://www.politube.org/atom/txmission?content=World%20Bank

please note that the only difference between the RSS and TX Feed is the naming of the description field (RSS calls it 'description', TX calls it 'content'; '%20%' is a code for the space character in a URL).

You can also combine searches e.g.

http://www.politube.org/rss/newmedia?author=ifiwatch&title=World%20Bank http://www.politube.org/atom/txmission?author=ifiwatch&title=World%20Bank

In which case the search will return all those media that have an author 'ifiwatch' AND title 'World Bank'

If you want those media that an author 'ifiwatch' OR title 'World Bank' then type the following

http://www.politube.org/rss/newmedia?author=ifiwatch&title=World%20Bank&join=or http://www.politube.org/atom/txmission?author=ifiwatch&title=World%20Bank&join=or

please try it out and let me know.

many many thanks for this, will have a go at adding them to the database later this week : ) one question meanwhile, is it possible to combine 'and' and 'or' in one filtering search? I see that you can have 'and', and you can have 'or', but what if you want, say, 'World Bank' and/or 'IMF'? I ask because ifiwatch.tv aims to suck data about independent videos on the World Bank/WorldBank/World_Bank/IBRD/IFC/IDA, IMF/InternationalMonetaryFund/International Monetary Fund, EIB/EuropeanInvestmentBank/European Investment Bank, etc etc etc... there are so many possible tags people could use to refer to IFIs, and they may be all listed together, or more likely just one or two in some unpredictable combination of acronyms and full names .. eventually we aim to gather feeds on video featuring all of the potential keywords, and if it was possible to combine them in one mega feed, it would be a whole lot easier to work with than adding each search one by one, and also be easier for others to replicate what we do by sucking feeds on their range of issues, regions etc of focus... what do you think? is this realistic? zoe

hi there that's great! please can you specify exactly what you are initially suggesting in terms of a standardised format? does such a thing exist already in other services, say youtube? so far i have run separate searches there to generate feeds.... and fairly urgently need to find a better way to handle the full range of potential IFI tags featured both there and elsewhere.. I can imagine that other users like me of transmission publishing sites will want the same capabilities, say a 'no borders' campaign website wanting to feature feeds of video tagged 'noborders', no_borders' 'refugees' 'asylum', 'nooneisillegal' and/or ' no one is illegal', for example...

if there is a good service already offering this capability somewhere,

maybe we can just copy that? meanwhile, is this not something that other Transmission projects are interested in developing and promoting? if not, why not?! any latest ideas about if/when transmission.cc will feature an aggregator of member groups' feeds into searchable database? is this waiting on the tweaks to drupal feed apis etc and other finalisations of the ifiwatch.tv model? ekes, is this standardisation process something we can engage in as part of rejigging the feeds in and out of ifiwatch.tv? so far I think that our users can 'refine with keyword' their search results from ifiwatch.tv, and generate a media feed from that, but I'm not clear how far this goes, if we have 'and/or' capability etc.. and I should know! whatever we have now and can develop in coming weeks/months, for sure it will be extremely important to document what the capacities are in extremely simple to access and use helpfiles. kuros, are the flossmanuals framework any good for your current needs? cheers all, your excitedly zoe
