  • create plug-ins, themes, forum, tutorials etc
  • different versions QT, flash, ipod, ogg (there can be a subscribe toolbox)
  • plug-ins include share button, subscribe to comments, video archive (downloadable @ WP.com!)
  • can customize themes, widgets can be dragged
  • use of tags and help relate videos with each other

pad.ma presented by the group mentored by Sanjay

  • public access (online) digital media archive
  • filmmaker, activist community, built for video
  • upload video, raw/edited sharing/downloadable/searchable using bit torrent + annotation (covered w pad.ma license)
  • right now holds around 200 events (140-150 hrs of footage)
  • cool features include a timeline, metadata, and could be scrolled! (no need to wait for it to buffer), can be edited using a simple offline html

server requirements

  • difference – you contribute to an existing archive that has a common search functions
  • catered toward people looking to a solution for tons of DV tapes piling up in cupboards

Plone/ Plumi presented by jo, et al mentored by andrew

  • video sharing content management system (plone, drupal, wordpress etc), an organising tool online that can help
  • started as an internet platform
  • plumi is a set of products and configrations that add video sharing functionality after

-plumi is created by engagemedia, under GPL license 2007, plone 10yrs -turns the material to flash for viewing, allows video podcasting miro subscribes podcast RSS really simple syndication – using tags, a delivering content system

  • plone is built on python language
  • uses its own server and development framework called zop (python-zop-plone-plumi)
  • allows feedback

-ex world social forum, engagemedia, uniontube

  • requires a unified installer (python, zope, etc.) downloadable at plumi.org, more sophisticated/ heavier (python vs PHP language)
  • build our own templates, python is built on html that can edit
  • features include video uploding, embedded playback, custom templates, open content licensing, mobile phone feeds

  • runs on drupal
  • cms analogy: you want a house, and u find stuff for your house (furnitures are already designed for you, you shop for them – check out the admin page)

web management is online, instead of making pages offline and uploading them upload and download videos

  • accommodates metadata

plone4artist presented by ariani and nate

  • an add on for plone, where you can add videos by way of plone or blip.tv/ google vieo/ you tube
  • has all the features that wordpress has, you dont have to host the video but you can control what it looks like. it pulls the metadata on the file from other hosts.

support for plone is in over 50 languages, it is easy to make site accessible in different languages
